What does 'The Right To See' Look Like to Becky Palm?

'The Right to See' in North America means raising awareness of the vision care gap not only in our own region, which is more than 1-in-10 people, but also around the globe where 1-in-3 people suffer from uncorrected poor vision.
For us this means we are deploying services through charitable vision clinics and providing access to no-cost glasses and resources. And we achieve this by working alongside optometrists, brand partners from across the EssilorLuxottica community and other like-minded non-profit organizations.
From schools and community centers to local eye doctors, together, we are providing clear sight to nearly 1,000 people each day. This World Sight Day, and every day, we believe in the importance of 'The Right To See' and know continued support is essential to provide vision care access to all – in North America and beyond.
On a more personal level, the photo I’m sharing is from a recent clinic I attended at a school in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It’s incredibly special to see our work in action, especially to witness the many lives we positively impact. Volunteering at a Foundation vision clinic always brings me tremendous joy and a renewed sense of purpose.

Major Accomplishments in North America:

Advocacy events with the United Nations and Canadian Parliament – The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation was instrumental in developing and advocating for the first UN resolution on vision that was passed. Following this achievement, the Foundation has participated in multiple advocacy events in North America including vision screenings at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, New York and a Canadian Parliament advocacy event to ensure vision care access receives the priority it deserves.
Empowering customers to give back to the community in United States and Canada – EssilorLuxottica has a portfolio of brands that have retail store presences including LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, Oakley and Ray-Ban in North America, among additional brands globally. These retail stores offer customer donation opportunities that support the Foundation upon checking-out at the register. Dedicated store associates educate store customers on the Foundation’s efforts to eliminate uncorrected poor vision and ask them to help support its charitable programs. These donation initiatives are made possible through the commitment of passionate store associates and the customers they engage.
Providing Free & Subsidized Services to Students & Communities – By working with school districts, nonprofits and other community-based partners, the Foundation hosts vision clinics each year that provide eye exams and glasses to people who wouldn't otherwise have access to the vision care they need. These programs rely heavily on partnerships and coordination with public health units, school districts, service organizations, EssilorLuxottica employee volunteers and other industry professionals.
